“We are extremely proud and excited to be a part of this hockey revolution”, Scott Whitcomb, CEO of JOG Athletics. As of earlier this year JOG Athletics has been announced as the official jersey supplier for the Trine University collegiate hockey program.
Since their establishment in 1884, Trine University doors has been open to scholars pouring in from all around the world. This private, post-secondary institution located in Angola, Indiana had recently made a ground-breaking decision to establish the school’s first ice hockey program in the upcoming 2017/2018 MIAA (Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association) season. In addition the university will also be adding two new athletic buildings to the campus to accommodate both the new men’s and women’s hockey team.
This is also a huge stepping stone for the state of Indiana as Trine’s women’s ice hockey team will be the only women’s intercollegiate team in Indiana.
“We are looking forward to the addition of ice hockey to our athletic department. Collegiate hockey will bring a new and exciting form of competition to the Trine University athletics family”, said Matt Land, Assistant Vice President of Athletics at Trine.
The new “Thunder Ice Arena” will be able to seat 1,000 spectators and will be located north of the University Center Apartments. The arena, with an estimated construction cost of $4.5 million, will include an NCAA-compliant rink, men’s and women’s lockers, concessions, a pro shop with wearables, sticks and skates for sale, a VIP lounge and two press boxes. It also will include an area for skate sharpening and rental.
Ground is expected to be broken for the ice arena no later than June 1 and games to start in Fall of 2017.
